LiftMaster openers repaired, programmed and replaced
We repair and replace LiftMaster openers across Vancouver, WA and Clark County, from older chain drives in 1990s tracts to current myQ belt and wall-mount units, and we pair remotes by the color of the learn button.

LiftMaster around Clark County
A LiftMaster in a Clark County garage was most likely hung by a door company or a builder: it is the Chamberlain Group line built for professional installation and sold through installers. Its parent also owns the Chamberlain brand and the myQ app.
LiftMaster is also the professional brand that installers around Clark County list most often, and the company courts home builders directly. With so much of the county built from the 1990s on, a LiftMaster hung at move-in is the first thing we expect to see in a Felida, Ridgefield or Battle Ground tract garage.
We are an independent shop that services every brand, LiftMaster included. That means gear kits and logic boards for the units worth keeping, remotes and keypads paired to the receiver you already own, and a current LiftMaster installed when the old one has run its course.
Is it a LiftMaster? How to check
A step stool and a phone camera are enough to confirm a LiftMaster and learn which remotes it will accept.
- The LiftMaster name printed or molded on the light lens or the motor housing.
- A model label in one of three spots: beneath the front light lens, beneath the lens on your left when you face the motor unit, or on the housing side away from the antenna wire. Photograph it before you call.
- Behind the light lens, close to where the antenna wire leaves the housing, a learn button in one of four colors: yellow, purple, green, or orange and red.
- A yellow learn button marks Security+ 2.0, the radio on recent units and the one myQ accessories expect.
- A bare ceiling with no rail at all. Look beside the door instead, where a LiftMaster wall-mount clamps onto the spring shaft at one side of the opening.
LiftMaster models in local garages
These LiftMaster families cover what a Clark County garage is likely to hold, newest first; the label gives the exact number.
| Model | Sold | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| 98022 wall-mount | Current | A DC motor that drives the spring shaft from the side of the door. Battery backup, Wi-Fi, Timer-to-Close and an automatic deadbolt come in the box; it is rated for doors to 850 pounds and needs no cable tension monitor. |
| 6580L and 6690L belt drives | Current | DC belt drives with battery backup and myQ built in. A quiet choice under a bedroom, and the battery keeps the door moving through a power cut. |
| 2220L, 2420L and 4690L chain drives | Current | DC chain drives with a camera in the motor unit and myQ. The 2420L and 4690L add battery backup, and the 4690L is the heavy-duty unit LiftMaster builds for high-use garages. |
| 8500W, 87504-267, 87802 and 84602 | Years not published | Earlier models LiftMaster lists with integrated battery backup. All of them take the 485LM replacement battery, and a battery status light tells you when it is due. |
| 8365W-267 Wi-Fi chain drive | Discontinued | A 1/2 HP AC chain drive that LiftMaster marks discontinued while still listing its motor, capacitor, receiver logic board and sensor kits. |
| 1345, 3265, 3280 and other numbered AC units | Years not published | Older chain and belt openers that still have parts pages. With a running motor and working photo eyes, these usually earn a repair. |
| Any LiftMaster built before 1993 | Before 1993 | Made before the federal photo eye rule, and outside the range LiftMaster sells remotes and keypads for. We replace these. |
Common LiftMaster problems and repairs
Each of these LiftMaster faults has a clear tell, and each one maps to a single repair.
-
Motor runs but the chain or belt never moves
On AC units the drive gear inside the housing wears through. We fit a gear and sprocket kit, then check spring balance so the new gear is not hauling a door with tired springs. Garage Door Opener Repair, from $155
-
Door reverses or refuses to close from the remote
The photo eyes near the floor have lost each other: knocked out of line, wet, dirty or on a nicked wire. We square the pair up again or fit new eyes, then rerun the reversal test. Garage Door Safety Sensor Repair, from $125
-
Battery status light on a backup model
The rechargeable battery lasts about one to two years. We swap in the 485LM that fits LiftMaster integrated backup units and run the door on battery before we leave. Garage Door Opener Repair, from $155
-
A new remote, keypad or car button will not learn
Remotes pair only with the radio system the learn button marks. We match the remote to the receiver, clear stale codes and set up keypads and car buttons in one visit. Garage Door Remote and Keypad Programming, from $105
Which Clark County garages suit a LiftMaster wall-mount?
A wall-mount suits a sectional door hung on torsion springs, because the motor couples straight to the spring shaft. It clears the ceiling for a tall shop garage, a car lift or a beam that sits right where a rail would run.
It also needs power within cord reach of the motor. Plugging the unit into an outlet that is already there is part of our job; a new receptacle belongs to an electrician, under a permit. A door on extension springs needs a torsion conversion first, and the springs must balance the door before any opener goes on.
Should you repair an older LiftMaster or replace it?
Repair wins on a LiftMaster that has photo eyes, a motor that runs and parts still on LiftMaster lists, which cover many older numbered chain and belt units.
A new opener is the better spend when the unit predates 1993, when the gear and the logic board fail together, or when you want battery backup. Trees downed in the January 2024 storms cut power across the Vancouver area for long stretches, and a backup model keeps the door working through that kind of week.
Questions from LiftMaster owners
Why will my LiftMaster not connect to myQ?
The network or the distance is the usual problem, not the opener. Setup wants a 2.4 GHz network, a strong signal in the garage and Bluetooth on your phone while you stand near the unit. A new router, network name or password also breaks the link, and the opener will not rejoin until setup runs again.
Can a LiftMaster wall-mount go on my garage door?
Yes, if the door is a sectional on torsion springs and an outlet sits within cord reach of the spot beside the door where the motor mounts. Extension-spring doors need a torsion conversion first. The 98022 is rated for doors up to 850 pounds, but the springs still carry the weight; the opener only guides the door.
Can you still get parts for an old LiftMaster opener?
For many models, yes. LiftMaster keeps parts listings for current and discontinued openers, including gear kits, logic boards, chain kits and belt kits, and a photo of the model label lets us order the right one. Units built before 1993 are the exception, and we point those owners toward replacement because they predate the federal photo eye rule.
How often does a LiftMaster backup battery need replacing?
About every one to two years, depending on how often the door runs on battery. The battery status light signals when it is due, and the 485LM fits LiftMaster integrated battery backup openers. The swap takes a few minutes, and we finish by running the door with the power unplugged to prove the new battery carries it.
Will a new LiftMaster remote work on a 1990s LiftMaster?
If the opener was built in 1993 or later, it should. LiftMaster lists its 893MAX visor remote for every LiftMaster made from January 1993 on, across all four learn button colors. An opener older than that sits outside the list, and a unit that old is due for replacement on safety grounds anyway.
