Garage door repair prices, posted before you call

Every price below is where a repair starts at a Vancouver, WA or Clark County home: parts and labor on a standard door, before Washington sales tax. Your door may land higher, and you hear where before any work starts.

Updated

A price starts with what you tell us. The symptom, or a photo showing the spring, the cables or the opener label, usually narrows the job to one line on this board, and we quote that line before a visit is booked.

The line is a floor, not a guess. Door size and weight, the spring grade, and parts we can only judge once we are standing at the door can raise it, and each of those is named, priced and agreed with you before the work goes ahead.

Where each garage door repair starts

Each line is one repair on a typical house door; the name opens that service page, and the note says what moves the number.

Columbia Spring & Cable price list: where each repair starts, parts and labor included
RepairWhat the price coversFrom
One torsion spring Garage Door Spring Replacement A torsion spring sized by wire, inside diameter and length to your door, wound, balanced and tested with the opener. Larger wire, extra length or high cycle steel raises it. $245
Both torsion springs Garage Door Spring Replacement Two matched springs replaced together on a two spring shaft, so both sides lift evenly. Heavy wood doors, wide insulated doors and high cycle springs raise it. $345
Extension spring pair Garage Door Spring Replacement Both side extension springs renewed, with a safety cable run through each one, then the door balanced and tested. Heavier doors and worn pulleys add parts. $215
Extension to torsion conversion Extension to Torsion Spring Conversion Side springs and pulleys removed; a torsion shaft, spring, drums, bearing plates and new lift cables fitted to a standard one car door. Heavy doors and low headroom setups cost more. $495
Both lift cables Garage Door Cable Replacement Two new lift cables cut to your door height and wrapped on the drums, springs reset and the door leveled. Cracked drums or rusted bottom brackets are added as parts after you see them. $185
Door back on its track Off-Track Garage Door Repair The door is clamped and supported, rollers guided back in, track set plumb and fastened, then run through full cycles. A kinked track section or a snapped cable is a separate line. $175
Full roller set, nylon Garage Door Roller and Hinge Replacement Every roller on a standard seven foot door swapped for sealed bearing nylon, with hinges checked as each one comes off. A cracked hinge or bent bracket is added per piece. $195
Track straightening and alignment Garage Door Track Repair A dented or twisted track trued where the steel allows, then squared to the door and fastened with new lag screws where the old ones pulled. New track pieces add the part. $165
Opener repair Garage Door Opener Repair Fault traced and fixed when it is a setting or a small part: travel limits, force, wall control, low voltage wiring or the trolley. A gear kit or logic board is quoted by model first. $155
Chain drive opener, installed Garage Door Opener Installation A chain drive unit hung on its rail with photo eyes, a wall control and a remote, set to your door and tested; the old opener leaves with us. Belt and wall mount units are higher tiers. $545
Remote and keypad pairing Garage Door Remote and Keypad Programming Your remotes, wireless keypad and car buttons paired to the opener and tested. A new remote, keypad or smart hub is added at the part price. $105
Photo eye repair Garage Door Safety Sensor Repair Photo eyes cleaned, lined up and locked in their brackets, the low voltage run checked, then the reversing test. A new pair of eyes or a fresh wire run adds the part. $125
One door section Garage Door Panel Replacement One damaged steel section ordered by make, model and color, then fitted on a return visit. Insulated, windowed, wood look and hard to find sections are priced from your photos. $445
New steel door, one car New Garage Door Installation An uninsulated steel door for a one car opening, hung on new track with springs sized to it, old door removed and hauled off. Insulated, two car, carriage and glass doors are higher tiers. $1195
Bottom seal Garage Door Weather Seal Replacement A new rubber bottom seal slid into the existing retainer on a one car door. A replacement retainer, the side and top stop seal and a floor threshold are separate lines. $145
Tune up and safety check Garage Door Tune-Up Moving parts oiled, loose bolts snugged, spring balance and reversing checked, opener travel and force set, and a written list of anything wearing. Parts are extra. $135
Slide bolt or T handle lock Garage Door Lock Repair and Security A side slide bolt or an outside T handle lock fitted and lined up with the track or strike. Opener mounted deadbolts and keyed or smart locks add the part. $115
Tilt up door repair Tilt-Up Garage Door Repair Work on a one piece door: its side springs, pivot arms or jamb brackets. Swapping it for a sectional door is priced like a new door once we measure the opening and headroom. $195
HOA or multifamily door visit Commercial and HOA Garage Door Service One residential style door at a townhome, condo or apartment garage, repaired within the amount the manager approves. Several doors or a recurring route are priced per site. $185
Same day repair Same Day Garage Door Repair Booked the same day during business hours at the card price, with no rush fee. This is the lowest repair line on the card; a spring, cable or off track call is priced on its own line. $105
Diagnostic visit only Covers the trip, the diagnosis and a written price you can keep. You pay it only if you decline the repair; approve any repair on that visit and it comes off. $85

Washington retail sales tax covers both the parts and the labor of a home repair, at the combined state and local rate for the job's address. Your invoice lists it on its own line.

What can raise your price, and how you approve it

Five things raise a repair above its line on the board, and each one is priced and agreed with you before it goes on the bill.

  • Door weight and size: a 16-foot insulated steel door or a wood carriage door outweighs a light single door, so its springs are thicker and its cables longer.
  • Spring grade: high-cycle springs, wound for more open and close cycles than the standard grade, cost more up front.
  • Worn parts found at the door: a frayed second cable, a cracked drum, a rusted bottom bracket or flat rollers are shown to you and priced as their own lines.
  • Two repairs on one visit: a broken spring and a pair of snapped cables are two lines on the board, not one.
  • Hard setups: low headroom, an unusual track layout or a special-order part can add time or a second trip.

When does a new door make more sense than a repair?

A new door or opener starts to make sense when the sections themselves are failing or the opener has no working photo eyes. A broken spring, a snapped cable or worn rollers on a sound door is a repair.

When the call is close, you get both prices next to each other, and the choice is yours. A repair on a door you plan to replace in a year or two can still be the right call, and we will say so when it is.

Questions about cost

What does a posted garage door repair price include?

It includes the part and the labor to fit it on a standard residential door. For a spring, that means the spring sized to your door, the winding, balancing the door and testing it with the opener. Washington sales tax is added on top. Anything more, like a second worn part or a heavier spring, is priced and agreed before it is done.

How is Washington sales tax added to a garage door repair bill?

Sales tax goes on the whole bill, labor included, at the combined rate where your house is. Washington counts repair work on a home as a retail sale, so the labor is taxed just as the parts are. Our own base plays no part in the rate, and the tax appears as a separate line on the invoice.

When does the diagnostic visit line on the price board apply?

It applies to a visit where we come out, find the cause and write you a price, and no repair goes ahead. The charge covers the trip, the diagnosis and that written price, which you keep. How it is handled when you approve a repair on the same visit is spelled out in the note on that line of the board.

How close is a photo price to the final garage door bill?

Close, when the photo clearly shows the broken part: the reply quotes that repair's posted line and names anything on your door likely to raise it. What a photo cannot show is hidden wear, such as a cable frayed where it meets the drum, a cracked bottom bracket or a spring sized wrong by an earlier repair. If we find one of those at the door, you hear the added cost before we fit anything.

Why can a spring replacement cost more than the posted starting price?

Because the starting price assumes a common spring on a standard door, and some doors need more. A heavy insulated or wood door takes thicker wire and a longer spring, a two-spring shaft is priced on the both-springs line, and high-cycle springs cost more than the standard grade. Each of those is quoted before any winding starts.

Does a same-day garage door repair cost more than the posted price?

The repair itself keeps its usual posted line whichever day it is done, so a spring, cable or off-track job starts at the same figure. How a same-day booking is charged is stated in the note on the board's same-day line. In most cases a visit that day can be arranged, depending on the schedule.

What happens to the price if more is wrong once the garage door work starts?

The work pauses and you hear about it first. We show you the extra problem, whether that is a second frayed cable or a bent track section, give you its price, and carry on only with your go-ahead. If you would rather stop at the original repair, we finish that and write down what we saw.

Want a price before anyone drives over?

Call and describe what the door is doing, or text a photo of the door and the spring above it. You hear the likely repair and where its price starts, then decide.
