Genie around Clark County

Genie reaches Clark County garages two ways: retail models sell through home improvement centers, with Genie's own product pages linking to Lowe's among other stores, while a separate pro range goes in only through installing companies.

Genie traces back to Alliance Manufacturing in Alliance, Ohio, which built its first garage door opener in 1954 and named it Genie. Overhead Door Corporation bought the company in 1994, and The Genie Company now sits among that corporation's brands, beside Overhead Door itself. Both Genie ranges carry Intellicode rolling code, which draws a new code from billions of combinations on every press.

Genie also kept the screw drive alive. Its support pages still cover a legacy screw drive series, and the current lineup still sells new screw units, so a Genie screw drive in a Clark County garage may be decades old or nearly new. We service all three drive types and every Genie remote generation we can still match.

Is it a Genie? How to check

Genie units carry their own vocabulary, so the names on the parts tell you as much as the logo.

  • The Genie name on the light lens or motor cover, often beside a series name such as StealthDrive, SilentMax, ChainMax or MachForce.
  • A screw drive: a long threaded steel rod turning in the rail where other openers carry a chain or a belt.
  • Photo eyes Genie calls Safe-T-Beam, one on each side of the door near the floor, each showing a small status light.
  • A model label on the motor unit. Legacy screw drives carry numbers such as H4000, H6000, IS900 or PRO95, and Excelerator units numbers such as ISD990.
  • A program button with no color code to read. Genie support identifies remotes by model number and picture instead.

Genie models in local garages

Genie splits its openers into a retail range and a pro range, and either can hang in a local garage next door to an older screw drive.

Common Genie problems and repairs

Genie trouble usually sorts itself by drive type or by radio generation.

  • Safe-T-Beam light blinking, door refuses to close

Genie says a flashing beam indicator means a fault, with dirty lenses the first suspect. We clean and realign the beams, trace the low-voltage wire and replace a failed pair. Garage Door Safety Sensor Repair, from $125

  • Screw drive chatters, slows or stalls partway up

We inspect the rod and the trolley that rides it, clean the rod and grease it again, and replace a worn trolley or coupler. Then we confirm the springs, not the motor, are lifting the door. Garage Door Opener Repair, from $155

  • A new remote or keypad will not pair

Genie remotes belong to an Intellicode generation and are identified by model. We pair one of the right generation, clear the memory when an old remote is lost, and set up HomeLink or Car2U in the car. Garage Door Remote and Keypad Programming, from $105

  • Aladdin Connect offline or stuck partway through setup

The hub needs a 2.4 GHz network and at least two bars of signal. We test the signal at the opener, rejoin the right band, and move the hub or add an extender when the garage reads weak. Garage Door Remote and Keypad Programming, from $105

What a Genie screw drive in an older Clark County house needs

An older Genie screw drive usually needs a cleaned, regreased rod and a fresh trolley, provided its safety beams work and the motor runs strong. Genie built it around a threaded rod and a trolley, with no belt or chain to stretch.

In garages from the 1970s and 1980s, such as many in Salmon Creek and Lake Shore, an original Genie screw unit may still be on the ceiling. One with no safety beams at all gets replaced rather than serviced.

Does it matter whether your Genie is a retail or pro model?

Yes: a Genie's retail or pro status matters for parts and remotes. Retail models sell in stores with remotes programmed at the factory for a homeowner install, while the TriloG, ReliaG, IntelliG and Connected Pro units go in through installers.

We order parts by the full model number on the label. When an original remote is gone, the Genie universal remote fills the gap on openers made from 1993 on that have working safety beams, the limit Genie sets for its accessories.

Questions from Genie owners

Is an old Genie screw drive worth servicing?

Yes, when the safety beams work and the motor is strong. A dry or gritty rod and a worn trolley are the usual faults, and both are fixable in one visit. A legacy Genie with no safety beams is the exception: it predates the federal rule for openers made from 1993 on, so we replace it.

What is Genie Intellicode, and does my opener have it?

Intellicode is Genie's rolling code: opener and remote move to a new code from billions of combinations on every press, so a recorded signal is useless. Universal remote makers list it at both 315 and 390 MHz. Genie openers older than Intellicode used DIP switches, the setup until about 1995.

Why will Genie Aladdin Connect not join my Wi-Fi?

The hub works only on a 2.4 GHz network and wants at least two bars, about -65 dBm, at the garage. Pick the 2.4 GHz network when your router shows two under one name, keep your phone within 30 to 50 feet of the hub, and finish inside the 15 minute pairing window.

Why does my Genie remote refuse to program?

The remote may belong to a different Genie generation than the opener. Genie identifies remotes by model and picture, so match yours first, then clear the opener memory if an old remote went missing. A Genie universal remote can stand in, and on DIP switch openers it uses button-entered virtual switches instead of physical ones.

Will a Genie universal remote work on another brand of opener?

Often. Genie lists its universal remote for Genie, Overhead Door, Chamberlain, Linear and Wayne Dalton openers, among others, provided the opener was made from 1993 on with working safety sensors. Rolling code brands pair only within that published list, so we test a new remote at the opener before handing it over.
