Houses and garage doors in Mount Vista
Mount Vista is one of the youngest unincorporated places in Clark County, with garage doors to match: half its homes are from 2000 or later, and close to a third from 2010 or later.
It also holds more townhomes and condos than most of its neighbors, with about one home in seven attached and more than one in four in multi-unit buildings, many of them near WSU Vancouver and Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. Both campuses sit inside Mount Vista, outside Vancouver city limits, along with Vancouver iTech Preparatory and the Salmon Creek Grange.
The detached houses follow the plats: Whipple Creek Meadows in 1999, Cobblestone and University Woods North in 2005, Whipple Creek Village in 2018 and the six Ramble Creek phases from 2022 to 2026, about 600 lots recorded just beyond the north edge of the census place. The original Mount Vista plat of 1972, northwest of the WSU campus, is the older exception, with 1970s doors and hardware.
The garages in Mount Vista
Townhome and condo plats near the two campuses tend to have garage rows managed by an association, and changing a door there usually needs its approval first. Owners occupy close to three homes in four overall.
Detached houses in Whipple Creek Meadows, Cobblestone, Whipple Creek Village and Ramble Creek carry two-car attached steel sectionals. Openers from around 1999 to 2005 in that group are now due, while the newest homes mostly need programming, photo eye alignment and small adjustments. The 1972 plat is where older springs, worn rollers and tired track hardware still turn up.

Common repairs in Mount Vista
In Mount Vista the electronics lead: newer homes call about remotes, keypads and photo eyes, while the older plats need openers and springs.
A move into a newer Mount Vista house usually comes with remotes and keypad codes that someone else set. We clear the previous codes from the opener's memory, set up your remotes, keypad and car buttons, and show you how to lock out remotes from the wall control if the opener has that feature.

The drive gear and the travel limit settings are where we look first. We fix the ones worth fixing and tell you straight when a new opener is the better spend.

Mount Vista spreads around NE 134th and NE 139th Streets and is reached from I-5 exit 7 (I-205 and NE 134th Street), I-5 exit 9 at NE 179th Street and I-205 exit 36 at NE 134th Street.
Inside it, NE Salmon Creek Avenue, NE 50th Avenue and NE Union Road reach most homes. WSDOT plans to rebuild the early-1960s exit 9 interchange at NE 179th Street with roundabouts and new bridges, with construction scheduled for 2029 to 2031. For a condo or townhome, tell us the building and unit and who can open the garage if you are out.
New to Mount Vista?
WSU Vancouver's 351-acre campus on NE Salmon Creek Avenue opened in 1996 and lies in Mount Vista, outside Vancouver city limits despite its name.
Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, which opened in 2005, has its NE 139th Street campus inside the Mount Vista census place, not in Salmon Creek.
Mount Vista was first counted as a census place in 2000, with 5,770 residents, and reached 10,051 by 2020.
Most of Mount Vista is in the Battle Ground School District, with smaller pieces in the Vancouver and Ridgefield districts.
The Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds sits just northwest, between Mount Vista and I-5, outside any census place.
Questions from Mount Vista homeowners
Do you service association garage rows in Mount Vista condo and townhome plats?
Yes. Mount Vista has more townhomes and condos than most unincorporated places nearby, many close to WSU Vancouver and Legacy Salmon Creek, and their garage rows tend to be managed by an association. We follow the association door spec, can arrange access through a manager and quote single units or a whole row.
Does your Mount Vista coverage include Ramble Creek and the 98642 side?
Yes. Mount Vista spans ZIPs 98686 and 98642, and we cover both, including Whipple Creek Village, the Ramble Creek phases and the original 1972 Mount Vista plat northwest of the WSU campus. Ramble Creek sits just past the north edge of the census place, which matters for sales tax more than for scheduling. Send the plat name or cross street with your photo.
Why might a Ramble Creek repair in Mount Vista carry a different sales tax?
Because the state's address lookup places Ramble Creek outside C-TRAN's transit benefit area, and that area carries its own sales tax. Streets nearby that fall inside the benefit area pay the transit portion, so two addresses a short drive apart can see different rates. Washington taxes the labor too, not only the parts. Our posted prices leave tax off, and the invoice applies the Washington rate for your exact address.
On a Mount Vista house from about 2000, which tends to go first, the opener or the springs?
Either can, because they have worn on the same schedule. A house in Whipple Creek Meadows or Cobblestone that still has its original opener and springs has run them for two decades or more. A failed spring announces itself with a bang and a door that suddenly weighs far more; an opener with grinding, humming or a door that stops short. We check both when either fails.
What kind of springs are on the doors in the original 1972 Mount Vista plat?
Either kind, depending on what earlier owners did. Some 1970s doors keep their extension springs out along the tracks, while others were moved to torsion springs above the header during an earlier replacement. A photo of the top corners of the door shows which you have. Extension springs need safety cables, and either type gets replaced in pairs.
What should a Mount Vista homeowner do if an ice storm knocks out the opener's power?
Free the door with the red emergency release cord and lift it by hand, if both springs are intact and the seal is not frozen down. January 2024 storms left wide, long outages across the Vancouver metro, so practice the release before winter. If the door barely moves when you lift, a spring is gone; leave it closed and call us. If both springs look whole but the door still drags, a cable may be off its drum.
Can you make it to a Mount Vista home near WSU Vancouver on the day I call?
In most cases, yes, as long as you call within business hours. Mount Vista sits off I-5 exits 7 and 9 and I-205 exit 36, so it fits routes from both freeways. For a condo or townhome row, tell us the building and unit, and who can let us into the garage if you will be out. If you can, photograph the model sticker on the opener so we bring the right remote or board.
